The Sudan Archaeological Collection & Archive at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and its excavation archive document the scholarly involvement of Humboldt-Universität in Sudan since the late 1950s. The unique collection of objects and archival materials bears witness to an important part of the history of Berlin-led archaeology in Sudan. The collection and archive includes extensive documentation of the Humboldt-Universität's work in Sudan since 1957 and hundreds of archaeological objects from excavations in the 1960s in Musawwarat es-Sufra, a singular Cushitic religious site. The objects include decorated architectural elements, temple furnishings, statuettes, vessels, tools, weapons, and jewelry. The collection and archive form the basis of ongoing research at Humboldt-Universität in Musawwarat es-Sufra since 2011 as well as in Meroe and Naga.
